Colm 'The Gooch' Cooper, Kerry GAA Star joins Killarney Golf & Fishing Club

This week marked a very special occasion at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club when one of Kerry and Ireland's leading GAA stars, fresh from the All Ireland win, Colm "The Gooch" Cooper, officially became a member. When Colm isn't busy training for his team and county he enjoys nothing better then relaxing with a good game of golf, now as a member of Killarney Golf & Fishing Club he has a choice of three great courses right on his doorstep. "Becoming a member of Killarney Golf & Fishing Club has been a dream of mine for years. Many of my friends are already members so I have often played on all three courses. Now I am looking forward to playing even more great golf at Killarney, a Club steeped in tradition and history and I am very proud to become a member today."

Welcoming Colm to the Club is one of the oldest members at the Club, Jim Keating. Jim was born in Waterville in 1912 and joined Killarney Golf & Fishing Club in 1976, after he returned to Ireland from South America where he worked for nearly 60 years.

At the age of 95 Jim still plays golf 3 times a week, which he says keeps him young and he is delighted to see the younger people like Colm joining the Club and continuing the great tradition of golf in Killarney. On welcoming Colm to the Club, Jim stated, "One of my greatest memories at the Club was playing a competition against two other footballing legends, Mick O'Dwyer and Eoin Liston. Mick and Eoin were representing Waterville and Pierce Purcell and I represented Killarney and I know I would have never matched them on the football field, but that day we beat them on the Golf Course! I look forward to playing a game with Colm sometime and make it a hat trick of Kerry Legends!!"
