The superb courses and international competitions brought huge demands on the club in terms of both visitors and members wishing to join the club that was at total playing capacity. Many proposals were submitted and eventually a site opposite the main courses was purchased. A superb Parkland course was opened in 2000. This Donald Steel designed course is totally unique and presents a totally different challenge to the golfer.
Lackabane hosted the Irish Ladies Open Championship in 2002, which was won by Iben Tinning from Denmark and the following year the competition was held on Mahony’s Point and was won by Sophie Gustafson from Sweden.
